15 die as bus falls into ditch in West Bengal

KOLKATA - At least 15 people were killed and around 20 injured when a bus fell into a ditch in West Bengal’s Coochbehar district Sunday, an official said.

“I have received reports of 15 casualties till now. Between 15-20 people were injured in the accident at Dewanhat town,” District Magistrate Samraki Mahapatra told IANS over the phone.

Inspector General of Police Ranveer Kumar said: “The incident occurred close to Dinhata area when the front tyre of the bus burst and the driver lost control of the vehicle.”

Rescue operations were on. The injured have been admitted to local hospitals.

Dinhata town is 425 km from Kolkata.
