German relief plane arrives in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD - A German military plane carrying relief supplies for Pakistani flood victims has arrived in Islamabad, a German embassy spokesman confirmed Saturday.

The plane carrying a cargo of 100 tonnes, including power generators and water pumps supplied by the German government, arrived at Chaklala airbase, near the capital Islamabad.

The aid is part of the NATO’s assistance for Pakistan, which is seeing the worst floods in its history. More than 17 million people have been displaced by the flood waters that have swamped one fifth of the country.

Germany is expected to dispatch another cargo plane on the weekend, with more power generators, boats, food and clothing donated by a non-governmental organization.

Pakistan is a key ally in the NATO-led war against Taliban insurgency in Afghanistan.
