ANKARA - Police in Turkey’s largest city of Istanbul confiscated around 77 kg of heroin and detained six suspects in a major anti-drug operation.

Police also conducted raids Friday in the southeastern province of Gaziantep, Xinhua reported citing the Anatolia news agency.

The heroin, seized in Istanbul, was found stashed in blankets, police said.

Turkey has been a key transit route for smuggling drugs from Asia and the Middle East to markets in Europe.
