MUMBAI - A Mumbai court Thursday sent three Mexicans and a Venezuelan, arrested in Dubai on India’s request for the sensational heist here of diamonds worth Rs.6.6 crore earlier this week, to police custody till Sep 4.
Among the four arrested is Mexican woman Guerrero Lugo Elvia Grissel, 24. The other two Mexicans are: Gonzalez Maldonado Mauricio, 24, and Campos Molan Elias, 39.
The lone Venezuelan involved in the Mumbai diamond heist is Gutierez Orlando.
All the four were brought to Mumbai from Dubai Thursday morning by a police team.
The police team had left for Dubai Wednesday. Dubai police detained the four people Tuesday following a request by the Indian home ministry.
In a remand application before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate B.S. Bhambhade, Mumbai police sought their custody to get to the bottom of the conspiracy.
The four foreign nationals stole the diamonds from the India International Jewellery Show-2010 (IIJS-2010) in Mumbai Monday and fled to Dubai.
The suspects put the diamonds in small plastic bags before swallowing them. The Dubai police made them purge out the valuables after taking them into custody.
The case was cracked and the suspects identified after studying the CCTV footage and checking records of over 1,500 visitors to the IIJS-2010. The records at the immigration offices at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport were also checked.
