BEIJING - Another passenger plane overshot the runway during landing in a city in China but caused no casualties, just hours after an aircraft crashed killing 42 people and injuring 54, officials said.
The plane operated by Tianjin Airlines overshot the runway at the Wuyu International Airport in Nanning city in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Wednesday and slid on to the grassy patches. Several runway lights were broken but there were no reports of casualties or damages to the plane, officials said Thursday.
The incident briefly interupted the airport traffic and the airport was closed for an hour before reopening, Xinhua reported.
The accident occurred just hours after an aircraft missed the runway and crashed to the ground in Yichun city in Heilongjiang province, killing 42 people and injuring 54.
The plane involved in the second incident took off from Xi’an in Shaanxi province and was to stop over in Nanning before heading to Haikou in Hainan province.
The cause of the accident was not known. But officials said heavy rains brought by a tropical storm pounded Nanning, soaking the runway before the accident occurred.
