LUCKNOW - Ten girl students of a private school in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district were hospitalised Wednesday after they fell unconscious following a gas leak in the chemistry laboratory of their school, an official said.
Students of class 10 and 12 of the Sophia Girls’ College, attending a joint practical class, fainted while performing experiments in the chemistry lab following the leakage in the apparatus containing Hydrogen Sulphide gas.
According to health officials, the students are being treated at the Sushila Jaswant Rai Hospital in Meerut, some 400 km from here.
“The students are now out of danger,” Chief Medical Officer Subodh Tiwari told reporters in Meerut.
Teachers who were supposed to be present in the lab were not present at the time of the accident, the officials said.
“An enquiry has been initiated against the school authorities in this regard,” District Inspector of Schools (DIOS) Kamlesh Kumar told reporters in Meerut.
