NEW YORK (GaeaTimes.com)- The regular commuters of Long Island Rail Road has to face a harrowing time on Monday after a fire that erupted in the switching station disrupted the train service for around four hours. At around 11 a.m yesterday morning the fire broke out quite close to the control tower in the Jamaica Station in Queens after there was a short circuit supposedly owing to the torrential rains that the region witnessed on Sunday. Due to the fire, rail services in ten branches were stopped although the services in the branch running between New York and Port Washington continued unabated.

While revealing details of the incident, Long Island Rail Road issued a statement that the repair work is likely to last for several days due to which commuters might have to face certain inconveniences. The rail road has clearly stated that the regular riders should be prepared for ’significant schedule changes and delays’ during the rush hours of Tuesday morning as well as evening although the services in the Port Washington branch would be taking place without any kind of hindrance. At the same time, the Long Island Rail Road officials have also reported that extent of the damage is being evaluated and the rail road crews are working incessantly in order to repair the damage.

Understandably, the disrupted services of the Long Island Rail Road has caused huge inconveniences to the 265,000 commuters who avail the service on a regular basis. In the wake of the cancellations as well as the delayed services, the commuters have been asked to use New York subways and buses with the tickets of Long Island Rail Road.
