NEW YORK (GaeaTimes.com) — “Anne Frank Tree,” is what the locals named the 150-year-old chestnut trunk. The tree comforted Dutch diarist Anne Frank while she hid from the Nazis during World War II.

Monday’s Amsterdam storms were destructive enough to uproot the historic tree. Other reasons leading to its devastation were backed up by fungis and moths that plagued the tree for several years. The City Officials had made several attempts to ground the tree until it faced its final destination through nature’s hands. The tree was among the few things that the Frank family could see from their attic hideout.

In her diary Frank wrote on Feb 23, 1944,

“From my favorite spot on the floor I look up at the blue sky and the bare chestnut tree, on whose branches little raindrops shine, appearing like silver, and at the seagulls and other birds as they glide on the wind.”

Thankfully, nobody got hurt and the Anna Frank house in the neighborhood still stands safe.
