KHARTOUM - At least 32 people were killed and 18 injured in floods and heavy rains in western Sudan, reports said Monday.

The casualties in Sudan’s North Kordofan state were caused by “drowning, thunderbolts and collapse of houses”, Xinhua said, citing local media reports.

The report said 886 houses completely collapsed, while around 11,000 houses were partially destroyed.

The Sudanese Supreme Council of Civil Defence Monday warned that due to the continuing rains on the Ethiopian plateau, the Nile water could rise to a critical level of 17 metres near Khartoum.
