Wildfire in LA County forest 40 percent contained
VALYERMO, Calif. — Fire crews are gaining ground against a wildfire that has burned more than 100 acres in the Angeles National Forest in northeast Los Angeles County.
Authorities say the blaze that erupted Friday near the town of Valyermo is now 40 percent contained.
The U.S. Forest Service says an unknown number of homes were evacuated. KCAL-TV showed horses fleeing stables in the early stages of the fire.
Forest Service spokesman Robert Brady says a firefighter broke his collarbone and was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital.
More than 150 firefighters and three water-dropping helicopters are battling the blaze.
The fire is burning about 50 miles northeast of Los Angeles and 20 miles southeast of Palmdale.
The cause is under investigation.

The U.S. Forest Service says the blaze in northeast Los Angeles County near the town of Valyermo started Friday afternoon.
Fire officials say scattered ranch homes were being evacuated, and KCAL-TV showed horses fleeing stables.
Spokesman Robert Brady says a Forest Service firefighter broke his collarbone, but he did not know how the injury happened.
More than 150 firefighters and three water-dropping helicopters are battling the blaze.
The fire is burning about 50 miles northeast of Los Angeles.
There is no word on cause or containment.
