NEW DELHI - Three people were arrested in Delhi Friday on charges of cheating people on the pretext of providing them air tickets for abroad, police said.

“The accused persons have been identified as Arun Kumar, 45, Akram Ali, 28 and Momin, 27. The main accused Kumar has been involved in the business of Tour and Travel for the past 10 years,” a police officer said.

Police acted on a complaint of Sukhbir Singh Rathi, a resident of Vasant Kunj. According to his complaint, his daughter-in-law made a call to “Just Dial” to purchase an air ticket for her mother-in-law from New Delhi to New York.

“After some time, she received a call from ABN Tour and Travel. Finally, an employee of ABN Tour and Travel visited their house and delivered the ticket. After confirming from Air India, she made a payment of Rs.55,500 to the employee of travel agency,” he said in the complaint.

Later on, when she enquired from Air India regarding luggage weights, she was shocked to know that her ticket was cancelled by the travel agency, the police officer said.

“In order to arrest the accused persons, a decoy deal was planned. A call was made to “Just Dial” to purchase tickets from Delhi to Sydney and return. After sometime, a call was received from Aryan Travels and deal was made with accused Arun Kumar and his associates. Finally, the deal was finalised for two tickets from New Delhi to Sydney and return for an amount of Rs.78,000,” the police officer said.

During this decoy deal, all the three accused were arrested from Munirka in south Delhi when they came to deliver the tickets to the police team. A Santro Car, a laptop, a computer and five mobile phones were recovered from them.
