Wildfire in LA County forest brings evacuations

VALYERMO, Calif. — Authorities say homes are under evacuation orders and a firefighter has been injured as a wildfire in the Angeles National Forest has grown to at least 100 acres.

The U.S. Forest Service says the blaze in northeast Los Angeles County near the town of Valyermo started Friday afternoon.

Fire officials say scattered ranch homes were being evacuated, and KCAL-TV showed horses fleeing stables.

Spokesman Robert Brady says a Forest Service firefighter broke his collarbone, but he did not know how the injury happened.

More than 150 firefighters and three water-dropping helicopters are battling the blaze.

The fire is burning about 50 miles northeast of Los Angeles.

There is no word on cause or containment.

VALYERMO, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a wildfire in the Angeles National Forest has spurred evacuations after surging to 15 acres.

Forest service dispatcher Sonia Valdivia says the blaze in northeast Los Angeles County near the town of Valyermo started Friday at about 3 p.m.

She says evacuations have been ordered along Big Pines Highway, but did not know how many homes or people are involved. KCAL-TV showed horses fleeing stables in the area.

Valdivia says 10 engines and a water-dropping helicopter are responding.

County fire inspector Frederic Stowers says units from his department have been sent to help.

There is no word on any cause or containment.
