PANAJI - Traffic along the Goa-Mumbai Konkan railway (KR) route resumed Wednesday after being disrupted for nearly 12 hours following a landslide near Ratnagiri in Maharashtra, an official said.

“The debris from the landslide, which had occurred in the early hours, was cleared around 2 p.m. Wednesday,” Baban Ghatge, spokesperson of Konkan Railway, said.

“We have allowed goods train traffic initially and the passenger trains will be operational in a couple of hours,” he added.

Rail traffic had been completely halted, following the landslide, on both sides of Ratnagiri, around 150 km from here.

Landslides during monsoon are a common occurrence on the Konkan Railway track and train services have been disrupted several times in the last couple of months.

The Konkan route stretches from Mumbai to Thiruvananthapuram and connects the states on the country’s western coastline.
