ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN (GaeaTimes.com)- Taking the opportunity of the Pakistan flooding, that is creating havoc over the country, a militant group in Pakistan clashed with the police overnight on Tuesday. The news was revealed to media sources by the Peshawar police. While the south and the east of Pakistan have been badly affected by the flood, the militant actions in the northwest are continuing to plague the country. The clash between the police and the militants took place at northwest of Pakistan that is considered the epicenter of the country’s fight against Taliban and al-Qaida. The overnight clash has highlighted once again the thereat that the militant groups still pose to Pakistan.

The authorities maintained that a group of militants first carried out an attack in the Adezai area of Peshawar. They killed two members of an anti-Taliban group who were on their way to a mosque late on Tuesday. Following the attack, few hours later militants from the Khyber tribal region that lies along the Afghanistan border of Pakistan, carried out attack on police posts in Sarband area of Peshawar. The firing continued for hours before the militants retreated. While some of the militants were killed in the attack, Liaqat Ali Khan, Peshawar police chief maintained that no police officer was injured or killed.

Liaqat Ali Khan maintained that the militant groups are trying to take the advantage of the Pakistan flood to attack Peshawar because much of the police force is engaged in rescue and relief work in the southeast. However, he maintained that the police is vigilant and alert. As foreign aids have been pouring in Pakistan, Taliban has urged people to refuse the foreign aids.
