KOLKATA - Four suspected Maoists were arrested after a three-hour fierce gun battle with the joint forces in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district Wednesday, police said.

The fierce exchange of fire between the Left-wing rebels and the security personnel began at 9 a.m. in the Kalsi Bala jungle in Salboni area.

The gun battle lasted more than three hours, but there were no casualties on the either side, police said.

However, the security forces arrested four suspected ultras after the battle.

A huge cache of arms and ammunition was also recovered, said West Midnapore Superintendent of Police Manoj Verma.

The Maoists are active in three western districts of West Bengal — Purulia, West Midnapore and Bankura.
