AHMEDABAD - The hearing on the bail plea of former Gujarat minister Amit Shah in the 2005 Sohrabuddin staged shootout was Tuesday postponed to Aug 30.

Shah, a former minister of state for home, was arrested July 25. He filed the bail plea soon after being sent behind bars by a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court.

The hearing was earlier scheduled for Aug 11 but was deferred till Tuesday because his lawyer Ram Jethmalani could not make it to the court.

The hearing was postponed Tuesday because of the application by Sohrabuddin’s brother, Rubabuddin Sheikh, who urged the court to give him a hearing before considering Shah’s bail application.

The hearing on Rubabuddin’s application would be on Aug 27.

Meanwhile, in keeping with the apex court’s decision, the CBI has sought documents related to the 2006 Tulsi Prajapati shootout from the Gujarat Police which was investigating the case. Prajapati was a key witness in the Sohrabuddin killing.

The CBI is soon expected to quiz some of the key accused in the Prajapati encounter to find out the missing links in the Sohrabuddin killing as the two cases are suspected to be intrinsically linked.
