5 Ugandan children from same home die in landslide
KAMPALA, Uganda — An aid official says five children in Uganda died during a landslide that hit their home as they slept, while their parents survived.
Regional Red Cross coordinator Kevin Nabutuwa said the landslide swept through the home early Saturday, burying the children as slept in their beds. The four girls and one boy ranged in age from 3 to 13.
The children’s parents were sleeping in another room of the home and survived the landslide.
The district where they live, located about 175 miles (280 kilometers) east of Uganda’s capital, already has suffered deadly landslides this year. In March, 300 people died in another village in Bududa district after heavy rains.
