14 students injured as school bus overturns

MUZAFFARNAGAR - At least 14 students of a private school were injured, three of them critically, when their bus overturned in this Uttar Pradesh district Saturday, police said.

The accident took place in the Phugana area of the district, some 350 km from Lucknow, when the bus of the Golden Public School, with about 35 students on board, overturned after the driver suddenly braked to avoid another vehicle.

“Those injured are from lower classes, in the age group of 7-12 years. All of them are being treated at a hospital, where the condition of three is stated to be critical,” police inspector K.P. Sharma told reporters.

According to eyewitnesses, the bus was over-speeding.

The driver of the bus received minor injuries.
