LUCKNOW - Rail traffic was disrupted on the busy Varanasi-Chhapra route after 10 wagons of a goods train derailed in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur district Friday. No casualty was reported in the accident, an official said.

The derailment took place Friday afternoon near the Yusufpur railway station, some 300 km from here, and damaged the railway tracks.

“The train was coming from Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi district and was heading towards Bihar. We are still to ascertain the exact cause behind the derailment,” Government Railway Police (GRP) inspector Vijay Kumar told reporters in Ghazipur.

“The exact reason behind the accident can only be ascertained after the completion of the enquiry being conducted by the railway officials,” he added.

According to officials, the work was under way to restore the rail traffic on the affected route.
