BAHRAICH - A counterfeit currency notes-printing racket has been busted in Ganiyapur village of this Uttar Pradesh district bordering Nepal. Three people have been arrested.
A raid was conducted by the special operations group of the state police late Thursday night. Besides freshly printed Indian currency notes with a face value of Rs.40,000, a printer, scanner and computer apparently used by the culprits have been seized.
Bahraich additional superintendent of police Ram Bharose said: “Those arrested were booked under different sections of the Indian Penal Code.”
While this is not the first time that fake Indian currency has been seized along the Indo-Nepal border, he said: “It was rare to get hold of a full-fledged printing facility for the contraband activity, which is usually carried out by operators in Nepal.”
