GHAZIABAD - Two people were killed when a train hit their vehicle while it was crossing the Delhi-Moradabad railway track near Masuri in this Uttar Pradesh district Thursday, police said.

The Saptkranti Express, going towards Hapur, hit a dumper that was crossing the track at gate number 90C at Masuri.

“The dumper was carrying bricks from a kiln situated at National Highway-24 to a village in Modinagar. Although the labourers that were sitting on the dumper cried out in alarm but the dumper had already crossed half the track. Hearing the cries, the driver tried to stop that proved fatal because at that time, he was on the middle of track,” said Government Railway Police official Suranjan Singh who inspected the spot.

“It was a fault of the gateman. The driver took the dumper on the track finding the gate open,” he added.

Due to the impact, the dumper broke in to two pieces. The driver Furkan, 25, and Aas Mohammad, 30 were killed.

“The gateman, Puttu Lal, is absconding. The investigation would prove the circumstances why the gate remained open when the train was coming on the track,” Singh said.
