GREATER NOIDA - A father shot dead his 16-year-old daughter for talking regularly, on her mobile phone and despite several warnings, to a distant relative he did not like, police said Thursday.

After killing her, he dumped her dead body and the murder weapon in a canal. Police have sent divers to trace out the body.

Naam Chand, a resident of Jaitpur village in Greater Noida, Monday killed his daughter Monika, a school dropout, after he again caught her talking to the man - her maternal uncle.

“I had warned her on several occasions but she disobeyed me and continued talking with a man - a distant relation whom I do not like. On Monday (Aug 9), when I saw her talking to the same man despite my repeated warnings, I could not control myself and shot her with a country-made pistol,” Naam Chand said in his confession, according to Greater Noida’s Superintendent of Police Atul Saxena.

Naam Chand dumped her dead body and the weapon in the canal in Daryapur village in neighbouring Bulandshahr district.

“Some villagers informed the police about the incident after some time but it could not be verified. The father was questioned for several hours but misled the police. After sometime, we sent some policemen in plainclothes to the village and they got some vital clues,” Saxena said.

Police confronted Naam Chand with the clues and he finally confessed to the crime, he added.
