PATNA - A group of armed robbers shot a man and at gunpoint looted cash and valuables from passengers on Vaidhnathdham-Kiul passenger train in Bihar’s Lakhisarai district, police said Saturday.

According to the police, around 6-7 armed robbers barged into the coaches of the train and looted cash and valuables from over a dozen passengers near Banshipur railway station late Friday night.

The robbers shot a passenger, identified as Pankaj Kumar Sahni, when he resisted their attempt to snatch his mobile phone and purse. He was seriously injured and admitted to a private hospital in Lakhisarai, about 150 km from here.

The robbers had boarded the train at Banshipur. After looting the passengers, they pulled the emergency chain and got off.

Train robberies have become common in Bihar. This has been the fourth train robbery reported in the last 20 days. Over two dozen train robberies have been reported across the state in the last two months.
