Leh Flood Makes Politicians Worried

SRINAGAR, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The cloudburst and subsequent Flash flood that hit the Leh Town in Jammu and Kashmir has created headlines. Former CM of Jammu and Kashmir and Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said on Friday that the exact number of dead people is yet to be known. The devastating flood has snapped all links with Ladakh town. There are conflicting reports on the number of casualties. The minister told the media entities outside the parliament that it is expected the death toll could touch 100.

The flashflood badly damaged BSNL building in Leh and that is why the telecommunication has suffered. The minister said such a devastating natural disaster had not hit the state in a long time. The army along with police is engaged in the rescue operations. The other veteran politicians have expressed their concern for the tragedy and the victim’s families. Manmohan Singh the prime minister of India said in a statement that the kin of the deceased will be given INR 100000 each. Those who have received serious injury in the accident will be given INR 50000.

The Prime minister has also expressed his grief for the deceased in the Leh flash flood and also for the huge damage caused to the property there. The damage caused to the properties in Leh is huge and it will take a long time to restore communication links and put roads in proper shape. The images of the flood and affected people have already appeared in the web and they are indeed shocking. The army helicopters have proved to be useful in relief work.
