Leh Airport To Begin Operations?

SRINAGAR, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- The flash flood of last night that wrecked havoc in the mountain town of Leh has made a mess of the runway in the airport as well. The air operations had to be cancelled for some time as the runway in the airport got filled with water and debris. The runway got covered by six inches of slush which made things awkward for the airport authorities. As per the latest updates the air force staff along with the army personnel is trying their level best to restore the runway. In fact the relied aircrafts cannot take off the runway before the area is cleared of the debris.
Air Force aircrafts from other places like Udhampur, Thoise and Chandigarh cannot land at Leh airport as well before the runway becomes operational. Meanwhile A K Antony the defense minister is overseeing relief and rescue work at Leh. The Jammu and Kashmir government has joined hands with the Ministry of Home Affairs and defense ministry to streamline rescue operations in the flood affected area. The government has already announced compensation packages for both the dead and critically injured victims.
Leh airport may become operational if the army and airport staff succeeds in cleaning up the slush fast. As of now the army is using choppers for rescue work where roads have been damaged. The town is not reachable by roads from outside since the Leh-Manali highway is not accessible. The telecommunication has also been disrupted which is adding to the mayhem. The cloudburst which caused the flash flood has been termed almost unprecedented by the weather experts.
