CHANDIGARH - The Indian Air Force (IAF) suspended flights to Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir Friday after the Leh runway was inundated by floodwaters following a massive cloudburst, defence officials said here.
“No flight has taken off from Chandigarh to Ladakh as floodwaters submerged the runway,” an IAF official said here.
A cloudburst hit Leh town Thursday night.
“We are monitoring the situation and are in touch with our counterparts in Leh. Right now it is difficult to say when the conditions will become normal,” Pardip Das Gupta, the defence spokesperson here, told IANS.
Officials say at least 59 people have been killed and over 300 injured in flash floods following the cloudburst. The floods have washed away several government buildings and homes.
