South Africa’s ex-police chief sentenced for corruption

JOHANNESBURG - South Africa’s former police chief and ex-president of Interpol was sentenced to 15 years in prison for taking bribes, local judicial sources said Tuesday.

In the sentence, the judge said Jackie Selebi was found guilty of taking bribes from drug traffickers, Xinhua reported.

Selebi, who was awarded an International Human Rights Award in 1997, served as Interpol president from 2004 until Jan 12, 2008.
