LUCKNOW - Uttar Pradesh BJP leader Hukum Singh’s wife Revati was murdered by their domestic servants, state Director General of Police Karamveer Singh said here Tuesday.

“The murder of senior BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) leader Hukum Singh’s wife Revati Singh was the handiwork of their own domestic help,” Karamveer Singh told a press conference.

One of these, Shankar was arrested along with his friend, Lallan, whose mobile phone was used in the crime, while a manhunt has been launched for Ravi Kamat, a former domestic help, as well as other suspects.

Revati was found strangled Sunday morning in her bedroom at her home in Muzaffarnagar town, about 400 km from here.

Police have also recovered a sum of Rs.2 lakh from the Noida residence of Jasod, a common friend of both Shankar and Ravi. He, however, managed to give the police the slip.

According to the first information report (FIR) lodged with the Muzaffarnagar police, a sum of Rs.20 lakh was found missing from the house on the night of the murder.

“Prima facie, the murder was masterminded by Ravi Kamat, a former domestic help whose services were terminated because of an earlier theft in the house,” said the police officer.

According to him, “it was Ravi who planned the entire crime that was carried out with the help of the other domestic help Shankar Kamat, who had been employed by the BJP leader for quite some time”.

Three police teams have fanned out in different directions to track down Ravi and Jasod. “A team has also been sent to the home of the accused in Bihar, where both the accused belong,” Karamveer Singh said.
