LUCKNOW - A tiger killed a man near a forest area in Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit district. His partially eaten body was found in the fields, an official said Wednesday.
The body of the victim was recovered late Tuesday evening from the outskirts of the Dilwarpur village, situated on the periphery of the Pilibhit forest reserve.
“Pugmarks found at the spot indicate it was a male, adult tiger,” Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) V.K. Singh told reporters in Pilibhit, around 250 km from here.
Prasad, a 45-year-old resident of Dilwarpur village, had left his home Sunday afternoon to collect firewood and was missing since then.
The incident has triggered panic amongst the villagers, who now prefer going out in groups.
“A team of forest officials is camping in the area to allay the fears of the locals,” Singh said.
This is the fifth incident of a tiger killing a person in the last three months in Pilibhit district. The body of a 50-year-old man was found Sunday from the fields in Diunia village of the Pilibhit forest reserve.
According to the last census, Pilibhit forest reserve is home to around 36 tigers.
