Man held with animal hides, antlers in Kanpur

LUCKNOW - A man was arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district Wednesday for possessing several animal hides, antlers and other animal parts, officials said.
Tushar Kant Vishwas, who is allegedly associated with an international wildlife trade racket, was arrested by a team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and forest officials from his residence in Ganga Vihar Colony in Kanpur, some 80 km from here.
“It appears that Vishwas worked for a big racket that could have international links. The case needs to be probed extensively,” Divisional Forest Officer B.R. Ahirwar told reporters in Kanpur.
“Several hides of wild animals, including wild boar, spotted deer and rabbit were recovered from his possession along with antlers of swamp deer and shells of tortoises. Two live star fish and six tortoises were also seized,” he added.
According to officials, Vishwas has been involved in the illegal trade for the last 10 years.
Vishwas, who has been booked under multiple sections of the Wildlife Protection Act, will be interrogated by CBI officials.
