KABUL - Floods triggered by heavy rains claimed lives of 40 people and rendered hundreds homeless in Afghanistan Wednesday.

“Floods left 40 persons including women and children dead in Kapisa and Laghman provinces of Afghanistan,” Xinhua said, citing a private television channel report.

Hundreds of acres of lands and houses were washed away or damaged in the natural disaster, the report said.

The heavy rains, which began in the wee hours of Wednesday, lashed several parts of the country for hours. Nearly 90 people were killed in floods in western Afghanistan in May.
