Man held for aiding ISI agent get Indian passport

NEW DELHI - A 60-year-old man was arrested here Friday on charges of helping an ISI agent obtain an Indian passport, police said.

Nafees Ahmed was held from near the Patiala House courts in central Delhi. He was absconding for the last eight months and had a reward of Rs.25,000 on his head.

Ahmed has been involved in facilitating and harbouring a spy and providing him logistics to operate in India. “He is the main aid to the resident agent and provided forged documents for procuring an Indian passport,” a police officer said.

He provided fake documents and assisted Abdul Jabbar, a Pakistani national, in procuring the passport in the name of Saiyyed Aamir Ali from Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh.

Police received information about Ahmed after arresting Jabbar in November last year while he was trying to escape to the UAE. “Sensitive documents pertaining to the Indian Air Force were recovered from his possession,” said the police officer.

“He (Jabbar) was imparted training in Pakistan for this purpose. He entered India through the Nepal border on the basis of forged documents of Indian identity (ration card of Rajasthan in the name of Ram Prasad) provided to him by his mentors. Initially, he visited Delhi and then went to Lucknow,” the police officer said.

During investigation, it was also revealed that Jabbar managed to obtain the Indian passport with the help of other co-accused namely Amman Waris, Mohammad Arshad, Khalil Ahmed and Nafees Ahmed — all residents of Lucknow. All four have been arrested.
