GHAZIABAD - About a dozen unidentified armed robbers looted copper wire worth around Rs.10 lakh from a factory early Wednesday after thrashing the security guard on duty, police said.

The robbery came to light when the sweeper of the factory in Meerut road industrial area found the security guard unconscious and wrapped in a blanket in the morning. He informed the police and rushed the guard, Vijay Pal Singh, to hospital.

The guard later revealed that the robbers barged into the Three-Star Electronic factory at 4 a.m. by scaling the wall after he refused to open the main gate, a police official said. He was badly beaten up by the robbers and fell unconscious due to the continuous assault.

The criminals then took away all the copper wire, loaded it into a truck and fled the spot.

“The copper wire stocked in the factory could be between Rs.8 lakh to 10 lakh,” said Brij Bhushan, the factory owner.

“We have registered a case and investigations are on,” said the Superintendent of Police (City) A.K. Vijaita.
