Cash, jewellery looted from industrialist’s house in Ghaziabad

GHAZIABAD - Eight armed robbers looted cash, jewellery and electronic items worth Rs.5 lakh from an industrialist’s house in this Uttar Pradesh district after locking the family in a room, police said Friday.

The unidentified robbers barged into Ashwini Khanna’s house on Radha Krishna Marg in Shalimar Garden Extension I here Thursday when he was entering his home around 10 p.m. Khanna owns a copper wire drawing unit in Friends Colony in Delhi’s Shahdara area.

“Khanna knocked the main door of his house and as he stepped in, about eight men barged into the house. They were armed with pistols and iron rods. The men tied the four family members - Khanna, his wife Asha, 38, their son Gaurav, 18, and their daughter Isha, 3 - and took away the belongings,” a police officer said.

“They took away Rs.90,000 in cash and jewellery worth over Rs.150,000, one mobile phone and some electronic items. The robbers were in their 20s. After they fled the house, the neighbours untied the Khannas,” the police officer said.

According to Superintendent of Police A.K. Vijaita: “We have registered a case and are trying to nab the criminals.”
