Report: Pa. steel plant explosion injures workers
CLAIRTON, Pa. — Crews are responding to an explosion at a U.S. Steel plant near Pittsburgh where a blast killed a worker in 2009.
KDKA-TV quotes emergency dispatchers as saying some workers suffered minor to moderate injuries in the blast just before 10 a.m. Wednesday at the United States Steel Corp.’s Clairton Coke Works.
A company spokeswoman says she can’t immediately confirm the news. An official with the United Steelworkers says the union is looking into the report.
The plant is about 20 miles south of Pittsburgh. A maintenance worker died in an explosion there in September 2009.
