Drug peddler arrested with heroin worth Rs.1 crore

LUCKNOW - A drug peddler, carrying heroin worth Rs.1 crore, was arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Mau district, police said Wednesday.
Mumtaz Ahmad, 32, was nabbed Tuesday evening from Dakshintola, about 300 km from Lucknow.
“Acting on a tip-off that an illegal consignment of the drug would be handed over to some men in Mau, we intercepted Ahmad and recovered heroin from him,” police inspector Sandeep Singh told reporters, Wednesday morning.
“Preliminary investigations reveal that he (Ahmad) worked for a Bihar-based drug racket. Apart from Uttar Pradesh, he had clients in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand,” he added.
According to police, Ahmad, who is a resident of the Sarailakhansi village in Mau, has been in involved in the illegal trade for the last three years.
