FLORIDA (GaeaTimes.com)- In a recent development a man was attacked by a large alligator in a canal in Florida which chopped off one of his hands. Gabriella Ferraro the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission representative said that Timothy Delano, the 18 year old guy is now recuperating at a hospital. The good thing is that the alligator was captured and the hand was recovered from its stomach. The doctors may be successful to attach it to the arm of the person. He was with three friends when the alligator attacked him unexpectedly. It was around 9.30 pm Sunday when the incident took place.
Timothy Delano was shocked and traumatized by the attack but he managed to free himself from the alligator’s grasp and swam to the shore. The friends called 911 thereafter. A helicopter was brought in to take him to a hospital in Fort Myers. The alligator which was killed later was more than 10 feet long. Generally the alligators become more active during dawn and dusk at this time of the year and that is why the Wildlife officials ask people to avoid freshwater canals and rivers.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission representative also said that the man was sitting on a piece of rock by canal when he suddenly fell off into water. The alligator attacked him immediately and he felt a excruciating pain in his left hand. However, he punched it off but by that time it bit off his left hand. The attack could prove to be fatal as the animal was large enough to overpower him.
