SHIMLA - Two labourers were killed and two were injured as they fell into a gorge while laying high-power transmission lines in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district Tuesday, an official said.

“Two labourers were killed Tuesday evening near Mangarh village while they were laying transmission lines of a power transmission corridor being constructed by Jaypee Powergrid Ltd (JPL),” Sub-Divisional Magistrate Rajesh Kumar told IANS over telephone.

He said the labourers hailed from Malda in West Bengal and were employees of Larsen & Toubro Ltd (L&T).

“Two of them died on the spot. Two have been admitted to a hospital in a critical condition,” he said.

The accident spot is some 100 km from state capital Shimla.

JPL, a joint venture of hydropower major Jaiprakash Hydro-Power Ltd and the Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd, is laying the power transmission corridor from Karcham in Kinnaur district to Abdulhapur in Haryana.

It had awarded the contract for laying the transmission lines to L&T.
