Boat capsizes in Maharashtra, three drown

MUMBAI - At least three people drowned and eight others are reported missing after a boat capsized in Vasai creek in Maharashtra’s Thane district Sunday evening, police said.

According to a police officer, the boat had 29 passengers who were travelling to Vasai from Utan for a pilgrimage. “We have recovered three bodies. A search is on for the missing persons,” he said.

Eighteen people managed to swim to safety, the officer added.
