LUCKNOW - A 19-year-old girl was allegedly thrashed to death by her family who did not approve of her relationship with a boy from a different caste in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district, police said Saturday.

According to a police official, “The victim, Choti, was in love with Yogendra whom she was keen on marrying. But the girl’s family said a flat no to the alliance. As the girl sought to moot the subject again on Friday night, her father and other family members got so infuriated that they beat her to death.”

The incident took place in Sikheda village, about 400 km from here.

The girl’s cremation was carried out in a hush-hush manner late Friday itself, police said.

The police have ordered an investigation into the case, even as Choti’s family claimed that the girl had died of “natural causes”. No arrests have been made so far.
