Octogenarian woman’s vehicle seized for speeding

SYDNEY - An octogenarian woman, whose vehicle was seized after she was caught speeding on an Australian highway, has vowed to continue buying more cars because she wants to “spend more time” with her lover half her age.

Judith Slade, 81, was driving at 164 km per hour when she was arrested, and told police she “had no choice but to continue” because she did not wish to be separated from her secret lover, with whom she had spent the weekend, the Herald Sun reported.

Constable Nik Probyn pursued Slade for four km along the highway at Lake Boga with the lights on his police car blinking and sirens blaring.

Because of her age and her driving, police now want her licence cancelled.

“What difference would it make if they took my licence from me? I’ll just buy more cars and they can take them away, too. I could buy another one now just to fight this and cruise past the police station, and say, ‘Here I am’,” Slade said.

Police had also imposed a condition on her licence banning her from driving at more than 30 km per hour.

Slade said nothing would stop her seeing her lover, who was almost half her age.

“If they get nasty, I’ll just think, what the hell does it matter - I’ll drive after dark.”
