GHAZIABAD - Two policemen posted in Uttar Pradesh’s Special Operation Group (SOG) at Baghpat district have been arrested for the double murder of two property dealers here last month, police said Thursday.

Constable Praveen Bansal and Head Constable Abdul have been arrested for the murder of Sanjeev Sharma and his partner Prakash Chand Khanna June 7 in Ghaziabad, police said.

Police claimed three others — Sandeep Gurjar, Azad Bansal and Chahat — have been found to be involved in the mysterious double murders.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Raghubir Lal Thursday said: “Praveen Bansal is posted as a constable with the Baghpat SOG team while Abdul is a head constable in the same SOG wing. They were involved in the conspiracy and execution of murder of these two men.”

After Sanjeev and Prakash were found murdered in a car June 7, the former’s brother Pradeep Sharma lodged an FIR against three people — Ashok Pal, Dushyant Kumar and Nawab.

Later, police found no involvement of these men and picked a person named Azad for questioning.

“Azad has confessed to the crime. We have arrested Praveen, Abdul, Azad and Sandeep while Chahat is at large,” the SSP said.
