Oaxaca (Mexico), July 8 (IANS/EFE) A Mexican mayor has killed a man and wounded another because they made fun of his party for losing the gubernatorial election in the southern state of Oaxaca.
Gerardo Jarquin Diaz, mayor of San Pedro Totolapan, was arrested after the shooting Tuesday night, the Oaxaca state attorney general’s office said.
Jarquin belongs to the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), whose candidate in Sunday’s election was defeated by the standard-bearer of an alliance between the conservative National Action Party (PAN) and the leftist Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD).
The PRI has ruled Oaxaca for eight decades.
The mayor shot a PRD member three times, killing him, and wounded his companion when they made fun of him for belonging to the party that lost the governor’s race.
