Earthquake shakes southcentral Alaska; no damage

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Alaska Earthquake Information Center says a magnitude 5.0 earthquake has shaken Anchorage and other communities in southcentral Alaska but there were no reports of damage.

The quake was recorded at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Geophysicist Randy Baldwin at the National Earthquake Information Center in Golden, Colo., says the center’s website has received more than 600 reports from people who felt the quake. Most reports came from the Anchorage area. It was also felt in Fort Richardson, Elmendorf Air Force Base and the communities of Wasilla, Palmer and Chugiak.

It was centered about 50 miles north-northwest of Anchorage at a depth of 13 miles.
