Four pilgrims die in road accident

LUCKNOW - At least four pilgrims, including two women, were killed and eight critically injured when their jeep was hit by a truck in Uttar Pradesh’s Allahabad district Thursday, police said.
The accident took place along the Varanasi-Allahabad highway some 200 km from Lucknow. The pilgrims were going to the Kade Manikpur Sheetla Devi dham in Kaushambhi district.
“The pilgrims died on the spot. The injured are in a hospital where their condition is stated to be serious,” police inspector B.L. Rawat told reporters in Allahabad.
All the pilgrims were from Bhadohi district.
The driver of the truck fled after the accident, police said. “Efforts are on to nab him,” said Rawat.
