SHIMLA - Four students were injured early Wednesday when activists of two political outfits clashed in the Himachal Pradesh University here, police said.

“The clash between the Students Federation of India (SFI) and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists took place around 2.30 a.m. over the illegal stay of four students in a university hostel,” police officer Mathura Das told IANS.

He said the SFI activists clashed with the students when they came to know about the illegal stay.

Later, the ABVP activists joined the four students and had an altercation with the SFI activists. Sharp-edged weapons were also used.

Das said four students were injured in the clash and admitted to a hospital.

A university official said the situation on the campus was tense as both the groups were demanding registration of cases against each other.

Police have detained some students.

Superintendent of Police R.M. Sharma said: “The situation is tense but under control. Additional forces have been deployed to counter any untoward situation.”
