Courses launched for road safety auditors

NEW DELHI - The International Road Federation (IRF) will conduct two certificate courses in July for road safety auditors to curb road accidents in India, an official of the Geneva based non-profit organisation said Monday.
“Road safety auditors will be given theoretical practice through these courses. They will be in a better position to identify the nature of accidents from past data to recommend specific corrective measures,” K.K. Kapila, chairman of IRF-India told IANS.
“The ministry of transport and highways has made it mandatory for all highways to be audited every year. Thus, we need such courses,” Kapila added.
The training course will be held July 12-16 and July 19-23 where 35-40 auditors will be trained by experts.
According to Kapila, road accidents in the country are increasing. As of now more than 400,000 accidents occur annually with about 100,000 people losing their lives in these accidents.
Besides fatalities, nearly 400,000 people suffer injuries in road accidents.
This course is being held in association with the Australian Road Research Board (AARB).
