Raids on to nab Bengal train sabotage suspect

KOLKATA - Security forces Sunday conducted raids in several villages in Jhargram in West Midnapore to nab Umakanto Mahato, one of the prime accused in the May 28 Gyaneshwari Express train tragedy in which 148 people were killed.
Superintendent of Police Jhargram (Police district), Praveen Tripathi, said, “A raid was conducted in the area. Twelve people were detained for interrogation.”
A senior police officer said the raids were conducted by joint forces comprising central paramilitary forces and state police in villages where Umakanto Mahato was said to have taken shelter in the last few days.
“Twelve locals were detained from near the hideouts of Umakanto, they will be interrogated to know details about his movements,” said the officer.
