GHAZIABAD - An Uttar Pradesh Police sub-inspector Sunday sustained critical injuries during a raid on a criminal’s hideout in the Modinagar area of Ghaziabad district, police said.

According to Ghaziabad police, a team of Gulaothi police of adjoining Bulandshahr district raided the hideout of Yamin, who carries a reward of Rs.5,000 on his head. During the exchange of fire between the police team and the criminals, sub-inspector Givar Singh, who was heading the team, sustained gunshot injuries in his abdomen.

The injured police officer was taken to a hospital in Hapur, from where he was referred to Bulandshahr after administering first-aid.

“The Gulaothi police did not inform the Ghaziabad police and raided the place in civil dress in private vehicles. After the incident, Ghaziabad police cordoned off the area and nabbed a criminal, who revealed his name as Popat, and seized a home-made pistol of .315 calibre and 12 live cartridges from him,” Ghaziabad’s Superintendent of Police (Rural) M.M. Baig said.

However, Yamin could not be arrested and a hunt is on for him, he added.
