PANAJI - Two freshly-dug graves were vandalised at a Roman Catholic cemetery in Goa and gold ornaments stolen, police said Friday.

The thieves Thursday night dug up two graves, which contained coffins of Caetano Mendes and Feliciano Fernandes, and stole the ornaments from there.

Mendes was buried July 27 and Fernandes July 29 at the St Andrew’s church graveyard at Goa Velha, a small village located about 15 km from Panaji.

The deceased had been buried with one gold ornament each which were owned by them.

“We have filed an FIR about the grave-robbers. We have not arrested anyone yet in this connection,” said a police officer.
